Porretta Soul Festival, 27esima edizione: conferenza stampa di presentazione lunedì 26 Maggio ore 10,30 Cinema Lumière, Bologna
Bologna - Per gli appassionati di soul di tutta Europa, l’appuntamento è al Rufus Thomas Park di Porretta Terme (Bologna) dal 17 al 20 luglio, con i leggendari musicisti di “Muscle Shoals”.
La 27esima edizione del Porretta Soul Festival verrà presentata al Cinema Lumière, Piazzetta Pasolini, 2/b, Bologna , lunedì 26 Maggio: alle ore 10,30 proiezione in anteprima per la stampa del film “Muscle Shoals”, che uscirà nelle sale il 10 Luglio. Presentato in anteprima al Sundance Film Festival, questo straordinario documentario vede protagonisti grandi star della musica internazionale come i Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Bono degli U2 e Alicia Keys. Seguirà, alle ore 12, la conferenza stampa del Porretta Soul Festival : interverranno l’Assessore alla Cultura della Regione Massimo Mezzetti , l’Assessore alla Cultura della Provincia Giuseppe De Biasi, il Sindaco di Porretta Terme Gherardo Nesti e il Direttore Artistico del Porretta Soul Festival Graziano Uliani.

Located on the banks of the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of the most creative and defiant music in American history.
Under the spiritual influence of the "Singing River" as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals is some of the most important and resonant of all time. "I'll Take You There", "Brown Sugar", "When a Man Loves a Woman", "I Never Loved A Man the Way That I Loved You", "Mustang Sally", "Tell Mama", "Kodachrome", and "Freebird" are just a few of the tens of thousands of tracks created there.
At its heart is Rick Hall who founded FAME Studios. Overcoming crushing poverty and staggering tragedies, he brought black and white musicians together to create music that would last for generations while also giving birth to the unique 'Muscle Shoals sound' and the rhythm section 'The Swampers'.
Legendary artists including Aretha Franklin, Greg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Jimmy Cliff, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Wilson Pickett, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge, Steve Winwood and others bear witness to the magnetism and mystery of Muscle Shoals and why it remains a global influence today.

Mercoledì 29 gennaio ore 17,00, Ernesto Assante e Gino Castaldo terranno una lezione/spettacolo su «Napoli presente e futura», affiancati da numerosi artisti, come Rocco Hunt, Daniele Sanzone degli A67, Daniele Sepe, Enzo Gragnaniello e Lina Sastri. Quindi un confronto sul comparto dei festival, con gli interventi di Antonio Princigalli (Puglia Sound), Stefano Senardi (commissione artistica di Sanremo), Giordano Sangiorgi (Audiocoop Mei), Graziano Uliani (Porretta Soul Festival), di alcune delle maggiori realtà regionali, come Ravello, Ville Vesuviane, Neapolis e Leuciana, nonché di Andrea Fantoma, membro del direttivo produttori cinematografici indipendenti, ed Eugenio d’Andrea, avvocato di artisti come Fiorello e Bocelli. La serata terminerà con una jam session di Lino Vairetti (Osanna), Vittorio de Scalzi (New Trolls), Vittorio Nocenzi (Banco) e Alan Sorrenti.

Wondersoul Vintage Stage By Alessandro Silvagni

Grazie alla disponibilità di Alessandro Silvagni ci sarà un terzo palco al Porretta Soul Festival:
Wondersoul Vintage Stage, un palco/mostra/"degustazione suoni" contenente un'importantissima collezione di 27 strumenti Fender (chitarre ed amplificatori) dal 1952 al 1974 e una selezione di strumenti anni 60/70 tra cui Gibson, Hiwatt, Hammond + Leslie, Rhodes, Rogers, Hayman etc. per un totale di oltre 40 pezzi tutti rigorosamente originali e funzionanti.
Il 20 e 21 Luglio su questo palco (dalle 11 alle 19) si esibiranno i Wondersoul e altre chicche.
Quindi a Porretta oltre alle Fender che vedete quì sotto, con relativa custodia originale (una Stratocaster per ogni anno dal 1959 al 1974 in colorazione sunburst e una telecaster 1969) e questi amplificatori (i gialli vanno dal 1952 al 1960, il marrone 1961 e il nero 1966) Alessandro porterà:

Andrew Love, la metà dei Memphis Horns ci ha lasciati. Andrew era parte della famiglia del Porretta Soul Festival. La sua ultima presenza a Porretta risale al 2001 nell’edizione che si svolse a Bologna. Subito dopo avvertiva i primi sintomi del morbo di Alzheimer , malattia che lo avrebbe colpito pesantemente. Un caro saluto a Pee Wee Love a tutta la famiglia.

Il Sweet Soul Music Award 2011 sarà conferito ad Andrea Mingardi il 22 Luglio prossimo durante la seconda serata del festival.Il riconoscimento sin dal primo anno del Porretta Soul Festival è nato per premiare chi ha contribuito alla promozione e alla valorizzazione del soul e rhythm & blues e l'albo d'oro ha visto in passato prestigiosi vincitori come Renzo Arbore, Peter Guralnick, Dave Booth, Tony Rounce e l'indimenticato Ernesto De Pascale a cui quest’anno il festival è dedicato dopo la sua prematura scomparsa.Andrea Mingardi, musicista di lungo corso ed esponente della migliore musica d'autore italiana, ha il merito di aver diffuso e valorizzato con passione e rigore il rhythm & blues nel nostro paese, usando anche il dialetto bolognese con gradevole ironia per meglio plasmare i testi nelle tipiche dodici battute del blues.

Il nostro collaboratore Ernesto De Pascale, giornalista, produttore, conduttore radiofonico, musicista è mancato il 13 Febbraio, il giorno del suo compleanno.
La sua grande passione, i suoi consigli , il suo prezioso lavoro hanno accompagnato la crescita del nostro festival. Grazie Ernesto.

I funerali si terranno martedì 15 Febbraio presso la Chiesa di San Marco a Firenze alle 15.
Our dear friend Ernesto De Pascale, journalist, producer, radio host, musician passed away on February 13, the day of his birthday.
It was his passion, his advice, his valuable work has accompanied the growth of our festival. Thanks Ernesto.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, February 15 at the Church of San Marco in Florence at 3pm.

A Bologna in occasione di ARTE FIERA 2011 – ART WHITE NIGHT nella sede della Provincia di Bologna a Palazzo Malvezzi è stata presentata la scultura “Ternaria” dell’artista Monica Folegatti che verrà posta all’ingresso del Porretta Soul Festival dal 21 al 24 Luglio e poi collocata nell’atrio della costruenda nuova biblioteca comunale di Porretta Terme.
L’opera è stata donata da un consorzio di mecenati “Mecenartmix” . La scultura “Ternaria”, ispirata alla soul music, è realizzata in terracotta e rame (cm. 160 x230) ed è un ulteriore riconoscimento di eccellenza al Porretta Soul Festival. Erano presenti alla presentazione l’artista Monica Folegatti, l’assessore alla Cultura della Provincia Giuliano Barigazzi, la critica d’arte Valeria Tassinari e l’instancabile Marco Tamarri per il Comune di Porretta, oltre ad un foltissimo pubblico tra cui abbiamo visto il filosofo Stefano Bonaga.

Dal catalogo leggiamo: “…..la battuta musicale (tipica della musica soul) con tempo ternario (3/4) ha un primo tempo forte al quale succedono due deboli. Nell’opera della Folegatti il rapporto ternario pare simboleggiare questa impari relazione, dove due figure bianche, ormai remissive, cedono all’incedere dell’”anima”, il “soul” dei neri, con una raffigurazione femminile che esprime una sensualità diretta, dura, tipica della soul music…..”

Due the schedule of the day and the size of Solomon’s family, we are asking that you keep family visitation for the Thursday Meditation and Wake Service only.

La voce di Ernesto De Pascale commenterà tutte le fasi di questa magnifica manifestazione che “Diesel” ha il piacere di poter offrire al suo pubblico.

Un grave lutto ha colpito il Porretta Soul Festival. E' morto infatti ad Amsterdam Solomon Burke, il "vescovo del soul", colui che ha reso grande questo genere e che grazie alle sue presenze al festival (a partire dalla prima edizione del 1987, suo debutto nel nostro paese) lo ha fatto conoscere e amare anche in Italia. "Apprendiamo la notizia della morte di Solomon Burke dagli amici del suo management _ spiega il direttore artistico Graziano Uliani _quando ci accingevamo ad invitarlo alla prossima edizione Festival, che era nato proprio grazie alla sua prima esibizione in Italia proprio a Porretta nel novembre 1987. Solomon era partito da Los Angeles per Amsterdam dove si sarebbe esibito in uno show al Paradiso Club. Ironia del destino, ieri avevo pubblicato su Facebook il suo concerto e la sua intervista fatta a Porretta nel 2003 ed avevo inviato una mail alla figlia minore (l’ultima di 21 figli) Candi per invitarlo in Italia. Solomon aveva appena pubblicato il suo ultimo CD “Nothings’ Impossible” registrato a Memphis negli studi di Willie Mitchell".

Victoria Burke, una delle figlie di Solomon, ha risposto così al messaggio che le abbiamo inviato: "Thank you...we love you and the great memories you gave our family. Thank you so very much...your friend Victoria"

For those of you who don't know, Nick produced Elvis's first few albums, including My Aim Is True, and wrote "Peace, Love, and Understanding," one of Elvis's signature songs.
Both artists will be performing a selection of songs from the other's songbook, with a stellar backing band including Bill Kirchen, Austin de Lone, Derek Huston, Ruth Davies, and Paul Revelli, with special surprise guests. Austin will also be performing the opening set with his daughter Caroline.

PORRETTA SOUL PREMIA TONY ROUNCE DELLA ACE RECORDS PER LA DIFFUSIONE DEL SOUL

Si avvicina l'appuntamento con il XXII Porretta Soul Festival dedicato principalmente agli artisti del Southern Soul. Per questo motivo il direttore artistico Graziano Uliani ha l'onore di annunciare il particolare riconoscimento per la diffusione del Soul che sarà consegnato a Tony Rounce, manager della Ace Records. Il premio è motivato per il suo continuo supporto alla divulgazione della Soul Music in tanti anni, culminato nel rigoroso lavoro di compilazione per il cofanetto di tre Cd "Take me to the River - A Southern Soul Story". Un riconoscimento che negli anni passati era stato dato a personaggi come Renzo Arbore, Peter Guralnick, Zucchero, Ernesto de Pascale, Massimo Cotto, Rob Bowman, Michele Bovi.

Tony Rounce riceverà il premio sul palco del Porretta Soul Festival (Rufus Thomas Park) sabato 25 luglio dallo stesso Uliani nella serata in cui è prevista anche l'esibizione del "vescovo del Soul" il grande Solomon Burke, e di Spencer Wiggins, per la prima volta in Europa, uno dei protagonisti della raccolta. Il disco arriverà in Italia a settembre (distribuzione Ird).
